Journey deep within the Vilcambamba mountains to discover for yourself what the Spanish invaders were never able to find: the “Cradle of Gold”.
Surrounded by sacred mountains within the Southern Andes and located 3,100m above sea level, Choquequirao is isolated deep within the mystical Vilcambamba mountain range. This challenging 4 day trek takes you on a path towards what many have deemed the sister city of Machu Picchu for its appearance and historical significance. Traverse through the rich Andean landscapes filled with regional flora and fauna, witness the panoramic views of the Andean mountains, and experience the breathtaking Incan ruin undisturbed by large crowds.
We specialize in complete travel packages that allow you to enjoy your travels while we handle the logistics. This service is only available as part of a full itinerary including all hotels, tours and ground transportation.
Rise early to begin your journey by driving through the countryside, over the mountains, and across the Apurimac River. You will stop in San Pedro de Cachora for lunch before embarking on your hike. You will wander through the fragrant eucalyptus trees before witnessing the spectacular view at the Capuliyoq lookout point. From there you will descend the zigzagging trail to rest and have dinner at your campsite in the valley at Chikisqa.
After enjoying your breakfast your day will start with a descent to the Apurimac River before a strenuous incline to Marampata. Your efforts will be rewarded with a rest amidst the breathtaking view of Choquequirao. Next you will reach the camp at Choquequirao where you will have time to explore on your own, eat lunch, and rest. Afterwards you will have a guided tour of Choquequirao before returning back to camp for a well-deserved dinner.
You will wake up within the Choquequirao ruins and spend your morning exploring the outskirt sites not seen the day before. Once you return to camp you will have lunch before continuing onward towards San Ignacio. Today you will cross the Apurimac River and begin an extremely deep descent that will reward you with unforgettable views of the Vilcabamba Mountains. The difficult part of your day will be behind you as you continue to your campsite for a delicious dinner.
Your last day will take you into the valley of the Tambobamba River, through a mango forest, and to your final destination of Villa Los Loros Lodge in Huanipaca where you will celebrate your victory and enjoy a final meal surrounded by the mountains, flower gardens, and river. You will then journey by car back to Cusco.
