Spend a few days in Cusco before your trek to help acclimate to the high altitude and enjoy a guided tour to historic sites around the city. Then embark on a premier journey along the Salkantay Trek that takes you on a historic section of the Inca trail. Each day’s trek ends with a hot shower in an exclusive lodge, a gourmet meal, and the opportunity to relax in an outdoor jacuzzi. Itinerary



Fly from Lima to Cusco. Upon arrival at the airport, meet our Incas Expert Travel representative for the short transfer to your hotel in the historic center. Along the way, you will see stunning examples of the city’s hybrid Spanish-Inca architecture. In the evening, meet your trekking guide for a briefing about your upcoming adventure.

In the morning, meet your guide in Cusco and drive to the Sacred Valley, making a stop in the town of Limatambo to visit the Inca ruins of Tarawasi along the way. Begin the trek in the mountain village of Mollepata and walk along a picturesque path to Soraypampa. Relax at the lodge in the evening and recharge for the next day’s adventure.

After breakfast, set out on a half-day hike to beautiful Lake Humantay framed by a looming glacier. Upon arrival, enjoy a snack and absorb the tranquility of the Andean scenery. A hot lunch awaits you upon your return to the lodge. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure and opt for a dip in the jacuzzi, take a long nap, or indulge in a massage.

Set out on the longest and most strenuous day of the Salktantay Trek. The trail leads to a valley and up mountain switchbacks to the Salkantay Pass, the highest point on the trek. What follows is a dramatic descent through fields of giant boulders, often shrouded in fog. Eat a hot picnic lunch and continue down rolling hills and marsh-like plateaus to the lodge.

The trek proceeds along the banks of the Salkantay River through increasingly verdant scenery accompanied by striking orchids and butterflies. Along the way, pass local homesteads and arrive to the mountain lodge in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon lounging in the sun and taking in the panoramic views of the lush green mountains from the lodge.

After breakfast, head out along the valley trail that mirrors the Santa Teresa River. Break for a hot lunch and visit an organic coffee plantation en route to the mountain lodge. Spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.

Set out in the morning for a 2-3 hour climb up an ancient Inca footpath amidst a lush rainforest environment to the ruins of Llactapata at the Llactapata Pass where you can delight in the views of Machu Picchu. For the final leg of today’s journey, take a scenic 1-hour train ride from the Hidroelectrica station to the town of Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.

Meet your guide for a memorable walk through the “lost city of the Incas” and soak in the majestic landscape that surrounds this important ruin. Finish up with last photos and then head back to Aguas Calientes town for the return trip to Cusco.

Enjoy a final breakfast at your Cusco hotel. Then meet our representative for a transfer to the airport to begin your journey back home.
